Back in the day when stars were stars, Esther Williams was America's Swimming Sweetheart, an actress and athlete whose cheerful, perky personality and lavish water ballets brought her enormous popularity. Here she is in one of the most enjoyable Technicolor musicals, the fun-filled, tune-filled treat, Dangerous When Wet.
Esther plays a farm girl who travels with her family to England to take part in a competition swimming the English Channel. Before she can get too wet, she finds romance with a dashing Frenchman (Fernando Lamas). She also gets to join cartoon legends Tom & Jerry in a delightful water ballet - one of the best live-and-animated sequences ever filmed. Taking part in the splashy fun are Jack Carson as Esther's coach, Denise Darcel as an amorous competitor in the swimming contest, and Charlotte Greenwood and William Demarest as Esther's supportive parents. Of course there are many hummable songs including "Ain't Nature Grand" and "In  My Wildest Dreams."
